Tired of being the passenger of her husband’s short rides and being dismissed by other motorcycle riders they encountered, she hated how it made her feel. However, it wasn’t until she was 41, married, and running her personal training business, Ultimate Fitness by DJ, that she decided that it was time for her to start riding. While on the road as a young entertainer, she found herself on the backs of many motorcycles. A successful personal trainer since 1986, she has always been a trailblazer and a strong, independent woman.

And she believes that you can be, too.īorn in Texas in 1958 and raised in Oklahoma, Momma D beat the odds growing up poor, facing rampant racism, and escaping an abusive home, to make it on her own at the age of eighteen. But most of all, this buff, six-foot-tall, postmenopausal, black woman is a survivor. Now she can add history-making motorcyclist, author, and motivational speaker to that list. She’s been a choreographer, competitive bodybuilder, professional trainer, and entrepreneur. She’s toured in show bands and rock and roll bands across the US. No one personifies that spirit better than Dee Jones, affectionately named “Momma D” by the world-class Mixed Martial Artists and boxers she has trained over the years. 'Now I’m free in and out of the saddle.'įinally, after what felt like a lifetime of sadness, Momma D now feels true happiness 'living my life the best way I possibly was created with the hope of breaking stereotypes about motorcyclists by showcasing the diversity and generosity of the motorcycle community through inspirational stories. 'I started riding then because I only felt free when I was in the saddle,' Momma D said. In her book '50 States of Consciousness', she detailed her journey through all 50 states and 169 consecutive days on the road. 'I survived some major things on two wheels and I’m still here to inspire and ignite women.'Ī map on her bike marks every state she’s traveled to since her last bad accident about a year ago. 'I had a couple of really bad motorcycle accidents and I realized that I am still here to make a difference,' Momma D said.

On the bike, her problems melt away and that 'indescribable' feeling is why she continues to get back on. 'Everybody’s looking at me thinking, ‘Well, how bad could it be?’, and the thing is they don’t know how close I was to suicide more than once because of that because no one will listen to me.' 'I went through a lot of verbal abuse behind closed doors so the scars didn’t show on the outside,' Momma D remembered. However, even Momma D will tell you, she wasn’t always this confident. Don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t because it’s up to you to make that decision to do it or not.' 'There’s nothing you can’t do if you set your mind to it,' Momma D said.
